I was brought up with Christian parents – my dad was a Local Preacher and I remember well going with him to do the Bible reading at an early age – was that a sign of what God had planned? After finishing school I started on a Librarianship at Newcastle Polytechnic as it was then. My faith grew as I left home and I found God had other ideas. 1986 saw me candidate for the Wesley Deaconess Order as it was called then. I was among the first group to be accepted into the Methodist Diaconal Order after the Conference directed the Order to re-open the order to both men and women – hence the change in name. After a year at Kingsmead College, Birmingham doing a Certificate in Mission Course I then ministered in Bromley; Enfield; Vale of Belvoir. Having been introduced to Prison Chaplaincy during my time in the Vale of Belvoir, I took up a post at HM Prison Wymott in Leyland where i spent 16 years! On returning to Circuit ministry I came to Wigan.
I am now nearing retirement after 40 years and looking forward to sitting down as it is called. I will probably back up north in Newcastle.
Each appointment has been different with their challenges and joys. In all of them what has given me most joy is the pastoral care and outreach inside and outside the Church and in the Circuits, Districts, within the Order, and Connexion.
